Kongoji
Temple has a 2,000 square meter peony garden where 1,500 peony
plants, made up of 100 species, are in bloom from the end
of April to early May. In fall, when the chrysanthemum festival
is held, a 'karesansui' garden - a Japanese style dry landscape
garden which combines stones and sand, is decorated with the
colorful flowers.

hall is rare for a Buddhist temple. |

Eizanji
Temple was founded in 719 A.D. The Hakkakudo Hall, a national
treasure, has blurred but visible pictures of flowers and
heavenly maidens around the inside walls. A statue of, 'Yakushi
Nyorai', a divine savior who comes to relieve present suffering,
is an important cultural asset, open to the public twice a
year from April 25th to May 6th and October 25th to November
4th.

Sekkoji
Temple was founded in 7th or 8th century by Ennogyoja, a magico-religious
practitioner who trained himself in Mt. Katsuragi. The 'Miroku
Sekibutsu' of this temple is the oldest stone image of Buddha
in Japan. Sekkoji Temple is also known and often visited for
its beautiful peonies that bloom from the end of November
to January and from April to May.

Otondo, gigantic
torches, at Chihara |

It
is said that Ennogyoja, who could supposedly control ogres,
was born where this temple is located. 'Otondo at Chihara,'
a fire festival held on the night of January 14, has been
designated as an intangible cultural folklore asset by Nara
Prefecture. Two gigantic torches, 5m in height are lit to
foresee what will happen during the year.
