Monju Bosatsu Buddha
Statue, the largest of its kind in Japan |
|
|
Known
as the largest Monju Bosatsu in Japan, 7m in height, is a
statue of the Boddhisattva Monju riding on a gigantic lion.
Monju Bosatsu is a symbol of divine wisdom. Abeno Monjuin
Temple, otherwise known by the more familiar name of "Abeno
Monju San," is one of the three major Monju temples in Japan.
The other two are "Kirido no Monju" in Amanohasidate, Kyoto
Pref. and "Kameoka Monju" in Yamagata Pref. Because Monju
is a symbol of wisdom, the temple is visited by many students
wishing to pass the high school entrance exam.
