The longest bridge
of suspension bridge in Japan |

With
a total length of 297m, hanging 54m above the ground, this
bridge is the longest of its kind in Japan. It is for pedestrians'
use only and is such a popular summer resort place it sometimes
attracts queues of people waiting to cross. The bridge becomes
one-way only, when it gets crowded.

The
stream making the Sasanotaki Fall has its source in the Omine
Mountain Range. This fall is counted as one of the 100 most
beautiful falls in Japan. The falls seem shrouded in mystery
as the water, splashing off the rocks, plunges to the pool
30m below. The upstream of this fall is called Takigawa Keikoku
gorge, and its water is counted as one of the '31 purist sources
of water in Yamato (or Nara) '.

A sanctuary of
esoteric Buddhism |

Mt.
Tamakiyama, located southeast of Totsukawa Village is a religious
mountain 1,076m above sea level, and has been worshipped since
ancient times. Its sanctuary of 37,000 square meters is situated
near the mountaintop where Shugendo, a type of religion in
which one seeks to enlighten oneself through austere training
in the mountains, is practiced.

by taxi from the bus stop and then a 20-minute walk to the

A
mountain path crossing over the Hatenashi Mountain Range (1,050m
above sea-level) starting from Totsukawa Onsen Spa, with a
total length of 12.5km is called Kumano Sankei Michi Koheji
path. This was one of the many paths where Shugenja, or mountain
ascetics trained themselves. Along the path are stone Buddhist
images situated set on the moss-covered stone steps, creating
a solemn, mysterious atmosphere. The entire route is listed
in the tentative list of world heritage.
