Heritage |

 The
entire 'Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in
the Kii Mountain Range, and the Cultural Landscapes
that Surround Them' is waiting for being designated
as World Heritage. The area includes various sacred
sites in Kii Peninsula (Yoshino/Ohmine, Koya and
Kumano area), and roads and paths including Ohmine
Okugake Michi, Kumanosankei Michikohechi, Nakahechi
and Iseji.
These paths and roads in the Kii Peninsula having
mountains of more than 1000m above sea-level,
extending three prefectures of Nara, Wakayama
and Mie were the site where religious trainees
were trained themselves and many people walked
along these roads for worship for more than thousand
years.
The entire site is an integral part of Japanese
culture, and most of cultural assets and nature
are still preserved in good condition. In order
to preserve culture and nature of those area,
the Japanese Government decided to apply designation
of these entire site as World Heritage. |
